About Michigan Home Calcs

Michigan Home Calcs exists because national calculators get Michigan wrong.

Punch your numbers into a big-name mortgage or remodel calculator and you'll get an answer built on national averages, a property-tax guess that's off by thousands, or a “kitchen remodel cost” pulled from a nationwide blend that looks nothing like a quote in Kent or Oakland County. We built the site we wanted to exist: calculators where the local numbers are already baked in.

What makes our numbers Michigan-specific

  • Local project pricing, flooring, roofing, kitchen, bath, deck, and fence costs sourced from Michigan and Midwest cost guides and Detroit-area Cost vs. Value data, with low / mid / high ranges.
  • Property taxes for all 83 counties, effective rates derived from Census ACS data, not a single statewide average.

Influenced by real Michigan pros

Our home-project calculators are shaped by feedback from working Michigan contractors, the people who actually quote fences, roofs, and remodels here. When a pro tells us a range reads low for how jobs are really priced in Michigan, we fix it. That's why our project estimates reflect local reality, not a national spreadsheet.

How we keep it honest

Every estimate is a good-faith figure for planning, and we say so plainly, it's not a firm quote. The calculators run entirely in your browser; we don't require an account, and we don't store what you type. We update our local data as new numbers land.

How the site stays free

Two ways, both disclosed: display advertising, and connecting people who ask to be matched with vetted Michigan real-estate, lending, and home-improvement pros. We are not a brokerage or a lender, and we never take a referral fee tied to a closed deal, so the math you see is never bent to sell you something. Advertising never changes the math: our estimates are based on local data, not on what a lender or contractor would prefer you see.

Who's behind it

Michigan Home Calcs is an independent, Michigan-based project, part of a small family of hyper-local calculator sites. Spot a number that looks off for your county? Tell us. Corrections from people who know their local market make the data better.
